Why we see luxury vinyl flooring in so many homes
You’d be hard-pressed to find a flooring material like luxury vinyl (LVF) that offers so much value. This stylish, high-end-looking product is 100% waterproof, durable, low maintenance, and easy to install. Most of all, it's affordable. We see it in every room in the house, some of which are homes where once nothing but genuine materials would even be considered.
A high end, premium look at a budget-friendly price
Inspired by nature, luxury vinyl flooring’s design layer consists of realistic images of wood, stone, and tile, available in an extensive color palette and pattern collection. The photos have vibrancy and clarity, showing knots, grains, swirls, and veining variations. Micro beveling and deep embossing add to the realism by adding depth, dimension, and textured features, such as wire-brushed hand-scraped, weathered and distressed.
The product follows all the trends, whether you want gray wood look floors for a farmhouse-style kitchen or marble floors for an upscale spa-like bathroom. With the tile pieces, there are chevrons, herringbones, colorful geometric, filigrees, and more. They can even be mixed and matched for a unique design.
The material can also be cut into planks to mimic hardwood, called vinyl plank flooring, or groutable squares to echo stone and tile, called LVT flooring. Many also use a plank to mimic stone because the large format, fewer seams give it more of a look of quarried rock, they say. Others prefer the extra seams because they add to the realism.

Extreme flooring durability
While all vinyl is durable, true LVF is thicker, measuring at least 8-mm. It has a top, transparent, melamine coating that protects the floors from scratches and scuffs and keeps spills at the top waiting to be wiped off. Since vinyl itself is a waterproof material, the waterproof capability is inherent; luxury vinyl can be spilled or submerged.
This material only requires daily sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid wax, shine-promoting substances as they damage the urethane finish and can dull the floor. If you think you need more shine, seek the advice of a flooring expert.
Installation is also easy. The pieces click together, mat, then hover over the subfloor with no nails or glue. Subfloors need to be clean, dry, and level.
Although luxury vinyl flooring is an uncomplicated installation, it sometimes still needs extra care so subfloor imperfections don’t telegraph through to the surface. That means we’ll sometimes sand a subfloor if it needs leveling. To learn more, get inspired and get a free quote come into the Cypress Custom Floors & Remodeling showroom in Cypress, TX.
